State wide proposal for Tasmanian local government climate action

The proposal Implementing Climate Change Action planning in local government a state-wide approach scales climate change action across the Tasmanian local government sector to build capacity within local government to adapt to climate change.

The proposal is outcomes focused and assists in delivering commitments identified by the Tasmanian Government though the review of its Climate Action Plan and amendments to the Climate Change Act. The program will enable better coordination and collaboration between Tasmanian and the local government sector. The targeted, outcomes focused approach adopted by the program will also provide a framework and data that can be used in the Tasmanian Government’s annual report card to report on progress in the local government sector and in their proposed monitoring and evaluation program

The collaborative approach will encourage a comprehensive, high-quality, evidence-based approach is applied State-wide

The program will help refine the focus of State Government planned activities such as workshops and technical seminars, maximising the benefits of Government activities The program will ensure the Tasmanian community is resilient to climate change impacts and will ensure a key section of the community is leading the way in accounting for and planning reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, helping meet State-wide targets.
