Regional Climate Change Strategy

The Regional Climate Change Initiative (RCCI) is developing a Southern Regional Climate Change Strategy and an associated action plan that will incorporate mitigation (carbon emissions reduction) and adaptation (responding to climate change) objectives and principles.

RCCI has formed a working group comprised of representatives from: Clarence City, Hobart City and Kingborough councils, and the Local Government Association of Tasmania LGAT and Tasmania Climate Change Office.

Council Climate Action Plan Template

The Regional Climate Change Initiative (RCCI) is developing templates for individual councils that provide a coordinated and consistent climate action plan. The project leverages off existing knowledge and expertise which is tailored to suit individual council’s circumstance and community needs.

The profiles will guide the preparation of the development of a regional climate strategy and identify suitable community and corporate council based adaptation actions.

Regional Community Carbon Emissions profile

The Regional Climate Change Initiative (RCCI) is currently preparing regional and municipal/community carbon emission profiles, to inform the development of a regional councils’ climate strategy and identify suitable community based mitigation actions. This does not include corporate councils’ emissions.

Southern Tasmanian Coastal Knowledge Project

(i) There are numerous geospatial data sets and coastal data projects. To make it easier to find and use these are outhern Tasmanian Coastal Monitoring Project – an inventory of coastal data, information and resources to assist councils and key stakeholders understanding of coastal processes and adaptation planning (completed June 2030)

(ii) Southern Tasmanian Coastal Governance – considers the governance arrangements for Coastal Monitoring Project including protocols, liabilities and jurisdictional issues around sharing coastal data and information to better inform coastal adaptation planning and our overall understanding of coastal processes and climate impacts.
